Vasota Fort History: -
A disciple of Vasistha sage lived on the hill on which Vasota is situated, so that disciple is said to have named the mountain after his guru. It is believed that Vasishta was renamed Vasota. The Shilahar kings built a fort on this hill. Vasota was named Vyaghragad by the Maharaja. The Peshwa also has a record of inaccessibility. In the time of Shivaji Maharaj, this fort was used as a "prison". Because of the dense jungles and deserts here as well as animals like tigers, leopards, are still there.
After Shivaji Maharaj conquered Jawali he took several forts in the vicinity, Vasota did not take it as it was a bit long. When Shivaji Maharaj was trapped at Panhalgad, he sent infantry under his command to conquer Vasota fort on June 6, 1660. After the assassination of Afzal Khan, Shivaji Maharaj attacked Rajapura and asked the British for the address of Afzal Khan's ships. As he did not tell, the British officer was arrested and imprisoned at Vasota. A few days later Rs 26000 was found on the fort. He later fought with Tai Telini in 1706. After 8 to 10 months of battle, Tai Telini was defeated and in 1730, Vasota fort passed to Bapu Gokhale.
An old Aryan mentions the fun of Vasota.
“Ajinkya Vasota of Rich Pant Representative;
Telin Mari Sota, Bapu Gokhalya Sambal Kasota ".
